About me

Hola! I’m Sebastian — your local friend in Kyoto. Originally from Colombia but happily based in Japan, I’ve spent years exploring Kyoto’s quiet backstreets, peaceful riverside paths, hidden temples, and beautiful neighborhoods — usually on an e-bike! My favorite way to share this city is through relaxed, fun e-bike adventures where we skip the crowds and discover the Kyoto most tourists never see. Think bamboo groves without people, tiny shrines tucked between old houses, secret viewpoints, and cozy local cafés. My tours feel less like a traditional sightseeing trip and more like spending the day with a friend who knows all the good spots. I love connecting with people, taking great photos for you, sharing cultural stories, and making the experience easy, personal, and unforgettable. I guide in English and Spanish, and I’m always excited to show you the real Kyoto — the one locals love. If you enjoy nature, relaxed biking, hidden gems, and friendly conversation, we’re going to have an amazing day together.

A day with me includes

Kyoto by E-Bike: Hidden Paths, Riverside Views & Local Secrets

A relaxed and scenic e-bike ride through Kyoto’s most beautiful neighborhoods. We start near the Kamo River and follow its peaceful paths before exploring the traditional streets of Gion, the iconic Yasaka Pagoda, and the gardens around Maruyama Park. We’ll cycle past temples, shrines, and historic gates like Chion-in and the massive torii of Heian Shrine, then continue toward the Philosopher’s Path for a quiet ride surrounded by trees and hidden temples. Depending on your pace, we might also ride through the Kyoto Imperial Palace Park or stop for local snacks, photos, or a quick break along the river. My tours are flexible and personal — more like exploring Kyoto with a local friend who knows beautiful routes, great stories, and peaceful spots away from the crowds.

Hidden Viewpoint of Yasaka Pagoda — No Crowds!

If you want a perfect photo of Yasaka Pagoda without crowds, skip the famous Ninenzaka–Sannenzaka streets and walk (or bike!) to the back street just west of the pagoda.

Most tourists stay on the main road, so this quiet lane gives you a beautiful, classic Kyoto view with almost no people. It’s one of my favorite stops during my e-bike tours and the perfect spot to capture the soft light of early morning or late afternoon.

Kamo River — Kyoto’s Best E-Bike Path for Beginners

The Kamo River cycling path is the safest and most scenic place to ride an e-bike in Kyoto. The route is completely flat, car-free, and surrounded by trees, bridges, and mountain views. You’ll see locals jogging, walking dogs, and relaxing by the river — a real snapshot of everyday Kyoto life.

It’s perfect for families, first-time riders, or anyone wanting a peaceful ride away from traffic. I always include this path in my tours because it captures the natural beauty and calm spirit of Kyoto.

    Don’t Rent Bikes Near Kiyomizu-dera — Here’s Why

Many visitors rent bikes around the Kiyomizu-dera area, but this is a big mistake. The streets are extremely steep, packed with tourists, and difficult to ride safely — even for experienced cyclists. Most people end up walking their bikes, feeling frustrated, or struggling with the crowds.

If you want to enjoy Kyoto by bike, start closer to the Kamo River or central Kyoto, where the terrain is flat and the routes are much more enjoyable. Your legs will thank you later!
