Families spread out under an old flamboyán at Engombe, where the arcaded house of a colonial sugar estate still looks over the Haina River. Kids swing a broomstick at a bottle cap in a game of vitilla on the same ground where cane was once pressed. Up the road in Hato Nuevo, the brick mansion of Palavé keeps its three arches.

It stays warm all year, drier from December to April. A Local Friend walks next to you through all of it, letting your questions set the route.
