The day begins at the market stalls, where fruit is stacked in careful pyramids and someone is always weaving, sanding or painting something to sell by noon. Hands make much of what you see here, and each piece comes with a story. Past the stalls, beaches sit on one side and green mountains on the other.
The weather is tropical, warm and humid, with a rainy season and a hurricane season from June to November, so winter is the easiest time to plan around. Your Local Friend can walk you through the stalls and point you to the craftsperson worth sitting down with.
