February Sundays bring out the lechones, masked carnival dancers with horned faces who parade around the white marble Monumento on its hill. Come in December or January and the same streets feel cooler, with clear mornings for walking Calle del Sol. By summer, afternoon showers roll across the Cibao Valley, and the city heads indoors to the galleries of Centro León.
Beyond the center, Los Pepines shows off old-style houses and fresh murals, and yaroa carts stay busy late. Expect warm weather all year, with drier months from December to April and wetter ones from May to November. A Local Friend keeps the plan loose, so a sudden shower can turn into a long lunch somewhere new.
