Local buses stop along the straight roads that divide one numbered sector from the next, and scooters cut across from one market to another. Head north and the traffic changes. Pilgrims climb toward the Mansa Devi temple, and a winding road leaves the plains for the pine-covered Morni Hills.
Beyond the main sights, there is the Cactus Garden in the city center, the Nada Sahib gurdwara on the riverbank and the Mughal terraces of Pinjore a short drive away. Summers are hot, the monsoon soaks July to September, and winter mornings can bring frost. A Local Friend keeps the plan loose, so a temple visit can turn into a hill drive when the sky clears.
