A grand brick building with domes turns out to be a forestry school, and at Robber's Cave a cold stream slips underground, then pops up again a few steps on. A 185-foot stupa rises over quiet southern lanes, and the valley's prized basmati is said to trace back to an exiled Afghan emir who missed his pulao.
Beyond the sights, Rajpur Road climbs toward the hills past old bakeries known for rusks and butter toffees. Winters are cool and often foggy, summers turn hot, and the monsoon pours down in July and August. A Local Friend can pull up a chair for you at a bakery counter or family kitchen you would never have found alone.
