Trains from Delhi and Amritsar pull into Kurukshetra Junction, and shared autos fill up for the short run to Brahma Sarovar, where pilgrims walk the long ghats around one of Asia's largest man-made tanks. Other riders head on toward Jyotisar, where tradition says Krishna spoke the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna beneath a banyan tree.
Beyond the water, the white marble dome of Sheikh Chilli's Tomb rises over Mughal gardens in old Thanesar, and families queue at the Bhadrakali temple. Summers turn fiercely hot, the monsoon rains fall from July to September and winters stay cool and dry. A Local Friend keeps the plan loose, so one auto ride can become a detour whenever the day suggests it.
