About me

I take much pleasure in showing the unique features of my beloved city to visitors. I am looking forward to connecting with people from every corner of this tiny crazy planet. Visiting a place is a way to discover new angles to understand different ways of living. Walking around Rio, I love telling the history behind the landscape and the people we are looking at.

To me, soccer is a big part of Rio's culture. I went to an International Relations university, nearby the Leblon beach. During college, I've been to Vancouver (Canada) to practice my English skills. After that, I moved to Buenos Aires (Argentina) to take my Master degree in Economic History. Then, I worked for half a year in Washington DC (US) and finally I managed an ecological hostel in Valparaíso (Chile). I was missing my beloved hometown so I moved back to Rio. I founded my own political consulting firm and in my spare time, I am surely looking forward to connect with visitors!

City's Tips & Traps

    Christ and Sugar Loaf

If you have only 1 day to tour in Rio de Janeiro, I recommend to you to choose between the Sugar Loaf or the Cristo Redentor statue. Although both of them are landmarks, you will make the most of Rio by combining the experience of seeing it from the above with taking a walk in Copacabana beach or in the new Port district.

    Petisqueira Martinho

Rio is a coastal city with plenty of fishermen villages, most of them barely known by mainstream tourism. Dishes like the Bobó de Camarão ot the Moqueca mix Indigenous and African ingredients. The Ribeira beach in Governor Island neighborhood and Jurujuba district in Niterói offer exquisite options of seafood restaurants.

    Rio from above

Few cities in this planet offer the possibility of a paragliding experience such as Rio. The breathtaking experience takes a morning. Highly recomended for those seeking beautiful pictures, adrenaline and an unforgatable experience. Ps: cloudy days are actually better for the practise of this sport.

    The real Samba!

Lapa district is a historical place of the Samba: Vaca Atolada and Barodromo are authentic places that display different varieties of this music scene. Visiting a samba school is also worthy such as the traditional Mangueira, where there is also the Samba Museum. Last but not least, Cidade do Samba, where costumes are manufactured, is a can't-miss-tour when it is open to the public.

    São Cristovão Market

The São Cristovão Fair is a treasure of local culture, music and food barely known by mainstream tourism. It is a stadium-sized fair which praises the working class inmigration of northern Brazil, which came to Rio and other Souhern states in the mid-XX century to built up its cities. My own family is a result of this migration!

    Rooftop Drinks

Brazil's most famous cocktail, the mix of sugar, lemon and the sugarcane-made cachaça can be best apreciated with a nice view. My favourites rooftops are located in the neighborhoods of Botafogo and Copacabana. At the luxurious Copacabana Palace hotel, there are other cocktails prepared with local ingredients!

Tell us, how was your experience with this friend.

Write about your own experiences guiding as a Local Friend. You can write these on your own voice, relating the unique experiences you were able to give who was traveling with you. Example: "Last week, I guided a traveler from Spain who wanted to experience the city beyond the main attractions. We started with a quiet morning at a small coffee shop only locals know, then wandered through a street art alley where I could share the stories behind each mural. They told me it was their favorite part of the trip because it felt like discovering a secret side of the city, one they would have never found alone."
