Avenida Libertador runs past shopfronts and street stalls, with Plaza Bolívar beside it. Samán trees, the city emblem, spread wide crowns over the sidewalks. At the edge of town, La Espiga rises from its roundabout like a bundle of grain stalks. Follow the streets east and they run into Araure, with no clear line between the two.
Past the center, Parque Curpa shades the birthplace of José Antonio Páez, and farm roads lead out to rice and corn fields. It is hot all year, dry from December to April and rainy from May to November. A Local Friend can show you their own neighborhood, from the corner bakery to the plaza where people meet.
