You ride the cable car up from Maripérez, and the city shrinks below you into a long valley of towers and red-roofed hills. Near the top, cool cloud drifts past the cabin windows, and on the far side of El Ávila the Caribbean appears, close enough to make you look twice.
Back on the valley floor, the Aula Magna hides Calder's floating clouds, Sabana Grande fills its pedestrian boulevard, and areperas serve reina pepiada late into the evening. The dry season runs from December to April, while the rest of the year brings short, heavy afternoon showers. When your own list runs out, a Local Friend knows which plaza, arepera or mountain trail should come next.
