Half-timbered shopfronts line the Mall, and the street spills onto the Ridge, a wide open square where Christ Church keeps watch over families strolling in woolens. Below it, Lower Bazaar drops down the slope in stairways and narrow lanes, while Lakkar Bazaar sells carved wood a few steps to the east.
Beyond the old center, homes and schools spread across seven hills, and forest paths climb Jakhu Hill to its towering Hanuman statue. Summers stay mild, the monsoon soaks July and August, and winter often brings snow. A Local Friend can take you into their own neighborhood, to the bakery they grew up with and the view from their street.
