The Ganges and the Ghaghara run wide and brown toward each other at the eastern edge of town, and the flat farmland between them seems to go on forever. Up close, the scale shrinks to a temple courtyard where the sage Bhrigu is honored and a clay cup of tea at the station.
Beyond the center, Surha Tal spreads into an oxbow lake where migrating birds crowd the winter shallows, and every autumn the Dadri Mela fills the riverside fields with cattle traders, rides and poetry. Summers are scorching, the monsoon brings heavy rain and winters turn mild and dry. A Local Friend will take you to the riverbank spot they love and tell you the story behind it.
