Saffron-clad kanwariyas jog barefoot into Purani Bazaar during Sawan, carrying river water to Baba Garibnath Dham, and the old lanes fill shoulder to shoulder with chants. A short ride away, the litchi orchards on the edge of town stay green and hushed, with fruit ripening quietly in the shade.
Beyond the temple, the shops of Motijheel stay busy into the evening, the Burhi Gandak slides past the edge of town, and Langat Singh College keeps an old observatory behind its Oxford-style front. Summers turn hot and humid, while winters are cool and pleasantly dry. A Local Friend knows when to beat the temple crowds at dawn and when to linger by the river.
