A green escarpment runs along the western edge of town, and from Milliken Hill the city spreads out below in red and grey roofs. Then the view shrinks to hand size, to a parcel of okpa still warm from the pot and a thin stream slipping into a sandstone cave in the Ngwo Pine Forest.
Beyond the hills, Enugu lives in its neighborhoods, from the bars of Independence Layout to quiet tree-lined streets, and late in the year Mmanwu masquerades fill the city with drums. It stays warm all year, with heavy rains from April to October and dusty Harmattan winds around December. A Local Friend can share a favorite spot on the hills and the family story behind it.
