About me

Hi everyone, I was born in Mexico City and I really love my country. I`m a huge fan of mexican painters like Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo, of course Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera, I like very much how they express their feelings through their paints. I also like muralists like David Alfaro Siqueiros or Rufino Tamayo, Mexico has beautiful historical buildings with their murals and we can visit some of this for free.
On my free time I like to walk with my dog or visit nearby towns and walk among their streets. I`m an International trade student and I work on my own.
I belive Mexico is great and its people too so whenever I have the oportunity I try to know new people and new places.

Mexican Candy Market in "La Merced"
Do you want to try and buy mexican fresh and cheap candies, go to the Candy Market in la Merced, you will find a huge variety like "alegrìas, (toasted amaranth seeds and honey), palanquetas ( toasted peanut candy with brown sugar syrup), Cocadas(clusters of coconut)" and many many more. These candies are the perfect gift to your friends and relatives and they are really delicious. I must say it is not the most pretty area of Mexico City but you are going to love the market and i recomend you better to go with a local, because if you don`t know the city, you can easily get lost. There are a lot of bees because of the candies but don`t worry, they are very busy with candies.
Ciclotòn
Do you want to avoid the traffic jam of the city?, well Sundays are great because Reforma avenue one of the most representative a beautiful avenues of the city is closed for the people can go to run, cycling or just walk with their families. This is a great day for you to go out and explore the city, take photos or just sit in one of the cafes along the avenue while you admire the view. Also you can get to downtown wich main entrance street is closed to. If you prefer you can rent a bicycle for a few hours with your credit card in one of the many stations in Reforma avenue, you can take the bicycle in one station and leave it in another one (www.ecobici.df.gob.mx). Sunday is a great day to explore the city without the every day traffic, if you are in Mexico City don't miss this opportunity.
Tostadas de Coyoacán
If you go to Coyoacan and I really recommend you to go because is one of the oldest and most beautiful neighborhoods in Mexico City, home to Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Leon Trotsky, with many different options to eat from, cafes, bars and restaurants, but definitely you cannot leave without trying the "Tostadas of Coyoacan." Tostadas are fried tortillas with different stews over, sour cream and cheese, in “Tostadas of Coyoacan” you will find tostadas made with chicken, beef, shrimps, mushrooms, fish and even mole, you won’t regret, tostadas are a delicious dish of typical Mexican food and if you have a reduced budget tostadas are the option, the prices are from $ 25 to $ 35 mexican pesos, as we say in Mexico City “Good, nice and cheap”. Be careful with the sauces because some can be really hot, but they are delicious too. And for the thirst do not miss the beverages made of seasonal fruits or Jamaica, horchata or tamarind. Tostadas are within the market of the same name, it is a typical Mexican market, where piñatas, candies, fruits, vegetables, Mexican toys, local craft are sold, walk around, you'll love it. If you go on weekends probably you will find the place crowded but don’t worry the owners are always trying to find a place for you to sit down and you won’t wait more than 10 minutes.
Xochimilco
Trajinera ride in Xochimilco You definitely cannot miss a ride on trajinera in Xochimilco, The Venice of Mexico City. Xochimilco is a lake area of the few that remains in Mexico City and was named cultural heritage by UNESCO in 1987, which was used at the time of the Aztecs for growing food and flowers. Today has greenhouses for growing flowers and ornamental plants mainly. Taking a ride in trajinera is something that definitely you should do if you're in the city, a trajinera is a kind of a large canoe with a roof, a long table and chairs for about 20 people. There are several piers where you can start your trajinera ride, but the best known is “Nativitas”, in this pier you will find a market where you can buy food and drink to take in the trajinera, or if you prefer you can buy food, refreshments, beer, candies and crafts in small boats along the way, another option, as many families do is bring your own food and drink which is cheaper and the most convenient thing to do. The rower of the trajinera will offer you in a bucket filled with ice, soft drinks and beer but these are not included in the price of the ride, so if you don’t want it, don’t drink it. The tours lasts about one hour for a price of $ 300 mexican pesos, but you can bargain with the rowers and they may give you a half hour more or to pay less than $ 600 for two hours of ride and especially if you go on midweek when they don’t have many visitors. Ask to the rower of the trajinera tell you about the history of Xochimilco, they are who know more and they’ll make your journey really fun. You'll also see trajineras with mariachis and marimba (a Mexican musical instrument), ask them to play a song for you, you'll have so much fun and you will meet some Mexican songs. Each mariachi song costs $ 100 Mexican pesos and marimba $ 30 Mexican pesos, you can bargain with any of them to play more songs for less money. Ask to the rower to take you to one of the greenhouses that are found along the way so you can see the variety of flowers that are sold, they are really nice, just do not forget that get off to see the flowers will also feature on the travel time. Xochimilco is like an oasis in the middle of the city and there is no any other activity that compares with this experience, you will really see the main essence of the Aztec culture in Mexico City.
Tepotzotlán Pueblo Mágico
Day trip. Mexico City has many places to visit, so many that you won’t have enough time to visit all. But if you have opportunity there are nearby places that you will love and will take only a few hours to reach them. In about an hour and a half from downtown Mexico City there is magical town called Tepotzotlán, a very traditional small town, once here I recommend to start a visit to the ecological park "Arches Site" is or "Xalpa Aqueduct", located 13 km from Tepotzotlán, you’ll have the opportunity to see an impressive hydraulic piece used by the Jesuits for bring water during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, you can make some activities like biking or horseback riding, hiking. There are hanging bridges, zip lines and a climbing wall, the entrance fee to the park is $ 35 Mexican pesos, the rest of the activities are charged separately. Back to Tepotzotlán you can visit the National Museum of Viceroyalty which is in an excellent state of preservation, the Chapel of the main hall is used every Sunday for concerts and plays, it has an altarpiece Churrigueresque and Baroque style in carved wood covered with gold leaf, you will be surprised when you see it. The museum has rooms on the second floor with beautiful views of the village, ask for the tour with a guide so you know the fascinating history of the place, the entrance fee is $ 56 Mexican pesos. The village has a food market, I highly recommend the quesadillas, sopes and Tlacoyos, if you walk to the left of the market in the next corner you will find a small restaurant where they sell a traditional Mexican dish called pozole and you can eat all that you want for the same price. If you prefer a restaurant with a bit more of variety, I recommend you "Los Virreyes", "Hostería del Convento", "Meson del Molino", "Casa Mago" among others, all these restaurants are located in the historical downtown of Tepotzotlán. For dessert next to the Municipal Palace are some small stalls where you will find ice creams of traditional flavors or exotic flavors such as tequila and cheese, try them, they are truly extraordinary and the sellers are very friendly, they will help you to decide the flavor of the ice cream by giving you a taste of it. This visit will take the whole day but it really worth it to do so.
Museo Nacional de Antropología
National Museum of Anthropology If you really like to learn about the ancient culture of the country that you are visiting, the National Museum of Anthropology is an excellent introduction to the vast variety of civilizations that inhabited Mexico you’ll find in its halls impressive displays of the Mayan, Toltec, Olmec and of course the Aztec culture. Among the pieces that can be seen in the museum is the Sun Stone, a large monolith with which the ancient Aztecs represented the beginning and end of their world, in this room you also will find a model of the ancient city of Tenochtitlan today the historical downtown of Mexico City, or the giant Olmec heads weighing approximately 20 tons and representing one of the oldest cultures that dominated the Gulf of Mexico, mainly in the states of Veracruz and Tabasco. I recommend the rent of an audio guide, they are available in French, English and Spanish for $ 75 Mexican pesos, for you to take the tour in chronological order and do not miss all the details of the pieces that are exhibited. Believe me I have visited this museum many times and I’m still learning and discovering something new, the museum is really amazing. Go to the museum shop, prices are not cheap but they have a very interesting books about the history of Mexico and a really beautiful handicrafts, so if you do not mind paying a little more, don’t miss it. Leaving the museum continue straight ahead and you will find “Los Voladores de Papantla” or “Bird Men”, do not miss to observe the rite that they perform, you'll love it, this religious ceremony represents fertility and falling rain, there is no cost but once they complete their representation they will kindly request you for a tip, what you want to give them is ok. The National Museum of Anthropology is located in the second section of Chapultepec, a large park dating back to pre-Hispanic times, it has two artificial lakes, a zoo, a greenhouse with a lot of cactus plants of Mexico many of them endangered species, a castle and other museums of the same historical importance, the park is open from Tuesday to Sunday and the access is free. Definitely visit the National Museum of Anthropology is necessary if you want to know about the ancient history of Mexico City.
Corredor Cultural Roma-Condesa
Roma-Condesa: Mexico City has a great archaeological and historical riches, but it is also modern, bohemian, alternative or if you prefer hipster. This area includes the neighborhoods of Condesa and Roma and it has a variety of restaurants, bars, cafes, boutiques of independent designers, small hotels, modern art galleries, plazas and parks. If you like walking to know a city these places are excellent. Roma neighborhood was one of the first modern areas that existed in the city, mostly home of wealthy European immigrants and today many of its buildings are Art Nouveau and eclectic French style. Around 1,500 buildings are found here and they were turned into artistic monuments. Among which you will find, “Casa Lamm” a cultural center and the House of Bruges, both on the Orizaba street and Rio de Janeiro square that has a replica of Michelangelo's David, an excellent place to take some refreshment at the cafes that are found in this area with tables outside so you do not miss anything. If you want to buy handicrafts, clothing, shoes and jewelry of excellent quality, come to visit the bazaars of Roma where Mexican designers will offer unique, original and very nice pieces, one of them is "Trafico Bazar", usually you find them in “Centro Gallego” gallery in 194 Colima street, follow them on Facebook for dates of their upcoming events www.facebook.com/BAZAR.TRAFIC For lunch I highly recommend the Roma market, a gourmet space where you will find varied food like Arabic, Mexican, tapas, burgers, beers and ice creams, gourmet cheeses and hams, etc. It is located at 225 Queretaro street, open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and the restaurant area on the first floor from 9:00 am to 24:00 hours, be sure of visit it. If you want to take a good cocktail or beer I recommend the bar "Chuchito Perez" a great place to have a good time and good music located near the Cibeles Fountain and Durango street. Condesa or Countess Neighborhood in English, belonged to the Countess of Miravalle, hence the name and in the nineteenth century had a racetrack, hence making their way roundabout Amsterdam. Start by walking on Alfonso Reyes Avenue, arriving at the corner of Tamaulipas street, on the left side in the mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., you’ll see a long line of people waiting to buy a “Torta de chilaquiles”, if you want to try a traditional Mexican dish for breakfast buy one and sit on one of the benches that are on the avenue. The restaurant located in the same corner "El Zorzal" is an excellent Argentine restaurant for lunch. Following on Alfonso Reyes street and Tacámbaro corner street on the left side you will see the "Farolito" tacos are the main dish in its menu, for lunch or dinner this restaurant is an excellent choice, ask the pastor tacos, jerky tacos or any of its specialties, they are really delicious. Arriving at the Mazatlan Avenue walk to the right, this avenue it is very pretty so you can walk peacefully, when you reach to Michoacan street walk to the right you will find many restaurants, bars and cafes that suits to all the tastes and budgets, following on Mazatlan Avenue and the corner of Fernando Montes de Oca street to the right side is the Roxy ice cream shop, with traditional and delicious ice cream flavors. If you continue walking on Mazatlan Avenue and reach Veracruz Street turn to the right and walk to the Spain Park, a very quiet place and where dog lovers often take their pets for a walk. I also recommend walking on Amsterdam square and Mexico Park, this whole area is very beautiful, you'll love it. If you are in bohemian mood and if you want to do something different, ask to your local friend to take you to any of these two wonderful neighborhoods, I assure you that you'll have so much fun.
Mexican street sancks
Mexican Street snacks They are delicious, cheap and you can find it everywhere and anytime in the hole city. If you are coming to Mexico City you better prepare your stomach, because we, Mexican people love to eat, so if you want to experience the real local culture, these are the main Mexican snacks that you should try before you live the city. “Esquites”: Boiled Mexican corn (not the yellow one) with “epazote” an aromatic herb, lemon, mayonnaise, hot chilli pepper and cheese zest, also you can eat a corncob with the same ingredients. You will find the street vendors of esquites in the afternoon from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm, here you will find the most popular, but you will find vendors of esquites in many corners of the city. Raspados have many flavors, the most popular are lemon, grocella (the red one), pineapple, mango, guanabana (the white one), tamarind, strawberry, vanilla, coffee, chocolate. Ask to the vendor for the “diablitos” (devils) with lemon and chilli or the “angelitos” (angels) with milk. We promise you will love them, so if you are planning to come to Mexico City on summer vacations don’t miss the opportunity of eating a traditional raspado. “Buñuelos”: this kind of doughnut is very popular in Mexico City, usually eaten at fairs or in the traditional festivals, buñuelos became so popular that you can find it in many places in the city. Made from flour and covered with brown sugar syrup. You are going to love it. “Churros rellenos”: stuffed churros, people eat them as a desert, you can find them stuffed with caramel, strawberry marmalade, chocolate and more, so if you are in the mood for something sweet “Churros rellenos” are your best option.
Street food (Tacos de Canasta "Los Especiales")
Many people who visit Mexico City want to know about a particular thing: Mexican street food. These places are not particularly touristic but if you want to eat like a real local, you should visit them. Tacos de Canasta: called like that because they are steamed on a basket, this kind of tacos are made from differents stews usually: mashed beans and potatoes, green mole, pork, chicken, beef.
Street food (Tacos de carnitas) "El Rincòn Taràsco"
Tacos de carnitas are made of fried pork - this place is small, which means that you have to eat stand on the street. But it will be worth it! Ask for the campechano taco, which has a little bit of everything and for me, it's the best one. I highly recommend you to eat them early because this is heavy food and it takes some time to digest ;)
Los Sopes de la Nueve
Another popular dish among Mexicans are sopes, wich is a kind of a large tortilla with mashed beans, a large variety of stews (you choose one), sauce (green or red) and Oaxaca melted cheese on top. This place has also many homemade juices and delicious fruit waters!
Bazar "San Ángel"
If you want to find real and original Mexican Art, from paintings, jewelry, clothes to Mexican craft you have to visit this bazaar in the south of the city. Surrounded by old beautiful houses, this neighborhood is one of the oldest in the city. The bazaar happens only on Saturdays but it is worth to spend the whole day there, and eat in one of the many restaurants that you will find in th place.
Palacio Nacional (murals)
Do you want to learn a little bit about Mexico's history in a different way? So you should visit the National Palace, where you will find great murals made by Diego Rivera, which contains passages from prehispanic era to the 19th century. This is an excellent place to learn more about the history of our city and admire one of the many great Mexican artworks!
