City's Tips & Traps

  • Image

    El Clan

This place is known for featuring local Latin American bands. An intimate atmosphere with capacity for 250 people, it helps to watch the bands up close - the gigs usually go until 11pm, and after that the place turns into a club, with DJ and dancefloor. It also has a smoking area.

    Centro cultural Gabriela Mistral

A cultural space in downtown Santiago, very interesting and modern. Inside GAM, you can have access to art, music concerts, theatre, dance and other options. A very comfortable space, this is a cultural centre that features contemporary art in a more sophisticated way. Inside, there is always a coffee shop; and you can find free exhibits or activities.

    Matucana 100

A cultural center, contemporary and alternative, with an urban vibe. Its audience is more focused on a simpler and more colaborative mode, which makes it an interesting spot to check ou if you're visiting the city.

    La Piojera

A very popular restaurant during lunchtime - but at the end of the day, it turns into a popular place to have our typical "terremoto", along with other known drinks they have there. A little bit touristic, but a classy and traditional spot to visit.

    barrio meiggs

is a place where you can find cheap articles, not necessarily original or from the area, you can find good products anyway. the origin is mainly of Chinese or Indian things. It is a comfortable place to go in the week and on the weekend it gets busy. if you plan to go to this place I hope to master good Spanish and always dress simple not to draw much attention.
  • Image

    Borderio

is a sector that offers different culinary options, some to be able to eat or drink and have a good view, at night is more beautiful to attend if you want to appreciate the design of the walk. recommended for couples, not so much to go alone to eat without a companion. If you go alone it is likely that the place where you most enjoy is the bar monsenor that has a nice view at night.

    Mercado Central

In the perimeter we find the most economic premises and also stands for products to take away. In the center of the market is the most popular restaurant called "augusto" of average price. In the main entrance of the market is "el galeon", it is the most "elegant" and more private. located near the metro station "Cal y Canto", always be attentive, go during lunch hours and good command of Spanish.
  • Image

    La vega Central

Mainly you can find fresh vegetables, among other edible products. I would not recommend buying meat as the butchers is not the specialty. Mainly it is a point that meets the culinary tastes of the Chilean, Peruvian and Venezuelan. There are pretty good and affordable cuisines. The place has its charm where you see the popular language of Chile, I recommend speaking clear Spanish.

    Parque Metropolitano de Santiago

In the metropolitan park you can find different attractions, by day you can go in tourist plan after a rainy day the view of the park is beautiful to appreciate santiago. Within the park there are different sectors such as botanic gardens, trails, teleferics, (see website). This hill is quite safe by the approaches of pedro de valdivia, a pleasant walk or a complete exercise, depending on one.

Tell us, how was your experience with this friend.

Write about your own experiences guiding as a Local Friend. You can write these on your own voice, relating the unique experiences you were able to give who was traveling with you. Example: "Last week, I guided a traveler from Spain who wanted to experience the city beyond the main attractions. We started with a quiet morning at a small coffee shop only locals know, then wandered through a street art alley where I could share the stories behind each mural. They told me it was their favorite part of the trip because it felt like discovering a secret side of the city, one they would have never found alone."
