Shop shutters roll up along Nahoria Bazaar, where a small gurdwara marks the place linked to Guru Nanak's forty-day stay. Follow the lanes toward Hisar Gate and you reach Dera Baba Sarsai Nath, whose dome is said to be a gift from Shah Jahan. Above the old town, the two tall minarets of the Jama Masjid help you keep your bearings.
Beyond the bazaars, the town gives way to flat farmland, and Ottu Lake on the Ghaggar River draws birdwatchers a short drive west. The climate is hot and semi-arid, with fierce summers, a brief monsoon and cool, dry winters. A Local Friend can show you around the lanes they grew up in, from corner shops to quiet courtyards.
