Come in October and the lanes glow with silver, as puja committees unveil tall filigree backdrops behind their goddesses. By November the crowds move to the Mahanadi bank for Bali Jatra, where families float little boats at dawn and fair stalls spread out near Barabati Fort. Cool winter mornings call for dahibara aloodum.
Beyond the festival grounds, the old city fills a narrow strip between the Mahanadi and the Kathajodi, with riverside walks and lanes of silversmiths. Summers stay hot until the monsoon rains arrive in July, and November to February brings the mildest days. A Local Friend keeps the plan loose, so a puja procession or a golden evening by the river can take over your afternoon.
