About this tip
Shuixian Temple Market in West Central District wraps around a temple first built in 1703, when this was the busy Nanshi Harbor. The market is nicknamed Tainan's kitchen: it is a working wet market with some long-established small eateries tucked among the stalls. Go in the morning, when it is liveliest, and wander the alleys around it afterwards. Bring cash and point at what others are eating, since many stalls have no English names.
