Office workers cut across the cathedral square at lunch, past thick walls of pounded earth. A short walk away, the old railway station that once shipped sacks of coffee now hosts shows as Estação Cultura, and on weekends a steam train still leaves Anhumas for Jaguariúna past old coffee farms.
Beyond the center, families circle Lagoa do Taquaral, where a red caravel replica floats by the shore, and students fill the bars of Barão Geraldo near Unicamp. To the east, Sousas and Joaquim Egídio trade traffic for farm roads and country restaurants. Summers are hot and rainy, and winters stay mild, dry and sunny. A Local Friend walks beside you, telling the stories the plaques leave out.
