Canvases lean against the old shopfronts of Jalan Braga, where painters sell landscapes beneath Art Deco facades and cafés fill the colonial buildings. A short ride north, the white Gedung Sate sits behind its wide lawn, and the road up to Dago climbs past cafés that look back over the city.
Further east, angklung music fills the hall at Saung Angklung Udjo, and the flat-topped Tangkuban Perahu volcano watches from the north. Up on its plateau, the city stays mild all year, with wet afternoons from November to April and drier days around August. A Local Friend can show you their own corner of town, from the surabi stall on the street to the café where their friends meet.
