Cones of kumkum powder glow red and yellow in the aisles of Devaraja Market, beside baskets of jasmine. A few streets away, artists lay gold foil on gods in the old Mysore painting style, and silk saris woven with gold thread sit folded on shop shelves. Much of it is still made by hand, a short walk from the counter.
Beyond the palace, walkers loop Kukkarahalli Lake at dawn, and pilgrims share the stairway up Chamundi Hill with joggers. Days stay warm most of the year, with monsoon rain from June to October and mild, dry winters. A Local Friend reads the menu, the market map and the mood of the day for you, so ordering and wandering get easier.
