Benches fill fast at the Surajkund crafts fair food court each February, and families squeeze in beside strangers to share plates. Nearby, weavers and potters spread their work around a stepped stone reservoir built for a sun king. At home the table turns Haryanvi, with thick kadhi, bajra roti and white butter.
Beyond the fair, the city runs in numbered sectors, from NIT, built by refugee families, to the towers of Greater Faridabad. To the west, the sacred Mangar Bani forest guards Stone Age cave paintings. Summers are scorching, monsoon rain comes in July and winters are mild. A Local Friend can bring you into their own sector, from the corner market to the park where neighbors meet after dark.
