On Shivratri, the road to Bhadeshwar Nath fills with families heading to a Shiva lingam that legend credits to Ravana himself. The temple stands on the Kuwano, and its fair draws visitors from across the state. In spring, another crowd sets out from Makhauda Dham, where the long pilgrim loop around Ayodhya begins.
Between festivals, Basti is a working market town. Families crowd Kateshwar Park, and boats drift on the lake at Van Vihar. Summers run hot, the monsoon soaks the plain from mid-June to September, and winters stay mild. A Local Friend can take you through doors you would never have knocked on, from a family courtyard to a village temple fair.
