The Gundlakamma River runs past Addanki toward the Bay of Bengal, a wide sandy bed in the dry months and a real river after the rains. It is the town's drinking water, and just outside town the low hill of Singarakonda rises, with a Hanuman shrine at its foot and a Narasimha temple higher up.
Back in town, a stone verse many locals call the first Telugu poem sits beside stories of the Reddi kings, who made Addanki their first seat. Summers are long and hot, and most rain falls in the second half of the year. A Local Friend can link the river, the hill and the old verse into one easy day that makes sense.
