Three pyramids fill the desert skyline at the end of Pyramids Road, and below them life runs at the scale of a saddle. In Nazlet el-Samman, the village at the foot of the plateau, horses wait in their stables while the Sphinx keeps watch nearby. In the Grand Egyptian Museum the scale flips, as a granite Ramesses II towers over the atrium.
Away from the plateau, Giza is a working city on the Nile's west bank, where families stroll Orman Garden and the cafés of Mohandessin fill late. Winters are mild and sunny, while summers bake the desert dry. A Local Friend can share a favorite spot of their own and tell you the story of how it became theirs.
