This tip I'm giving you applies to my town but also to any other Italian town, including major cities: When you're in Italy traveling and walking around, and your stomach begins to gurgle, and your brain tells you you're surrounded by amazingly good food all around, stop for a while and remember this: when you see big groups of tourists entering a restaurant, it'll probably be a tourist trap. A tourist trap is a restaurant where the food isn't as good as it should be, and worst of all it's incredibly overpriced. You may find yourself paying €50 for a pasta dish and a bottle of water, which is insane. If you want to eat some real good typical food, you have to search for little restaurants with no great line outside, the ones that are called "Trattoria" and look old and outdated. Fancy and tasty don't (always) follow the same path in Italy. In a typical "trattoria" you're most likely to experience REAL Italian food, in huge portions, at very affordable prices, and you'll be surrounded by the typical Italian atmosphere with people speaking local dialect around you and the traditional Italian hospitality warming your heart up. If you want a local guide to show you around the best "trattorie", feel free to reach out and I'll take you.
