Do you want to have a panoramic view of the city's centre? Visit the Martinelli building, 130 meters tall. With 30 floors, it was the first skyscraper in Brazil, and it is located in the downtown area. The building construction began in 1922 and its pink terrace always stand out!

On the top of Chez Oscar (one of the coolest restaurants in town) lies one of the best spots recently opened: holding one of their well made drinks in your hands (gin & tonic is my fave) might be one of the nicest ways to spend a Wedsneday eve in São Paulo, seeing a high quality jazz band (R$ 10 entrance). The view is nice (the name means "the bar upstairs") and the atmosphere is cozy yet classy.

    Paulista avenue

    • El Tarter, Andorra
    • paulista-avenue
      Community

Paulista avenue today almost didn't remember the aristocracy residential adress it was 100 years ago, but still is a place to see and to be seen. From the time it was a city home for the cofee barons only remained 3 buildings, and now is more democratic that it was a century ago. In its almost 2km lenght, it has the some of the principal museums, 2 green areas, 2 shopping malls and many, many stores, including the biggest brazilian fast fashion brands, which stores in this adress are really big. On Christmas, a beautiful decoration usually takes place, in New Year's Eve a big concert with a 15 minutes firework show celebrates every 31st december the year to come and every sunday, the day closed for (heavy) traffic, many people come and walk in the middle of the street. The best days to visit Paulista avenue is on Sunday and Tuesday, when the museus is free entrance. There is a huge concentration of hotels and restaurants in the surroundings. When you get here, is good to have some cash, because Paulista avenue and the region itself is still a noble adress and the atractions might not be cheap (at least for me).

It's one of the few places in the area where you can go for a coffee or lunch on weekends. It still keeps the old school upscale atmosphere, ressonating the days when chic hotels were located nearby and their clients needed an elite spot. Today Girondino is a legend in downtown and one of the best places to have a coffee - especially after visiting Mosteiro de São Bento, just across the street.
