A long strip of sand runs west along the shore with no high-rise hotels behind it, and on a weekday morning the loudest sound is surf folding over the reef. The sky opens wide above old sugarcane land. Up close, the quiet fills with small things, like a fishing line cast at first light or limu rocking in the shallows.
Inland, Ocean Pointe families paddle the Wai Kai lagoon and an old plantation railroad rattles toward Kahe Point. Days stay sunny and warm, with most of the light rain falling between November and March. A Local Friend can show you the stretch of shore they grew up on and who taught them which seaweed to pick.
