Long benches fill up in the Fish Auction Hall on Sunday mornings, and the people sharing them arrive from opposite ends of the night. Clubgoers still in party clothes sit beside early risers, a Fischbrötchen in every other hand, while ships slide past on the Elbe.
Away from the water, the city lives in its quarters. Café tables spill onto the sidewalks of the Schanzenviertel, Ottensen keeps its small shops and old facades, and walkers circle the Alster at dusk. Summers are mild and winters cool and damp, with rain spread across the year. A Local Friend walks you into their own quarter, from the bakery they swear by to the bench where they watch the ships.
