You stand at a Nayapura counter at breakfast, a hot kachori on a paper plate and the smell of hing in the air. A few minutes away the Chambal slides past its new ghats, and out on Kishore Sagar the red-and-white Jag Mandir sits on its island like a jewel box someone left on the water.
Beyond the lake, the Garh Palace keeps walls of painted hunting scenes, and weavers just outside the city still work Kota Doria on pit looms. Summers are long and fierce, the monsoon fills the river, and winters stay mild and dry. When your list runs out, a Local Friend picks the next stop, maybe the gorge-top temple at Garadia Mahadev, maybe one more kachori.
