The chivito is Uruguay's national sandwich: thin beef steak with mozzarella, ham, tomato, olives and often bacon and egg. Ask for it al pan to eat it in a bun by hand, or al plato to get everything on a plate with fries, knife and fork. Portions are large, so one is a full meal for most people. Add a cold drink and skip the starter.
