Many visitors expect to tap a contactless card on the bus. In Montevideo, buses take cash or the STM card today, and payment by bank card or phone on board is only expected by mid-2027. Carry small bills, or get an STM card at an Abitab shop if you will ride a lot, since it gives transfer discounts. The Moovit and Cómo ir apps show routes and stops.
