      Ngong Hills Hike

Enjoy breathtaking views of Nairobi and the Great Rift Valley as you hike through the Ngong Hills. This daily tour takes place at the Ngong Forest Reserve, located about 25 km southwest of the city. It’s a favorite destination for both locals and visitors — ideal for hiking, walking, and picnicking in nature.

The hike typically takes 4 to 5 hours, depending on your fitness level. As you make your way up, the first thing that captures your attention is the impressive windmills, standing tall and gleaming white along the ridges. The rolling green hills provide the perfect spot for a picnic under the wide blue skies.

On weekends, the area comes alive with hikers, runners, school groups, families, and worshippers. The highest peak of the Ngong Hills reaches 2,460 meters (8,070 feet) above sea level, and the range forms part of a gazetted forest reserve covering over 21,000 square kilometers.

The Ngong Hills gained fame after being featured in the iconic film “Out of Africa”, based on Karen Blixen’s book. She noted that “Ngong” comes from the Maasai word for knuckles — and indeed, the hills resemble a row of knuckles rising against the horizon.

Your guide will meet you at Kona Baridi (“the cold corner”), your final hiking point, before heading to Olepolos Country Club for a delicious local meal. Enjoy the authentic outdoor experience with Nyama Choma (grilled meat) and Kuku Choma (grilled chicken) — local favorites that will leave you wanting more.

After lunch, you’ll return comfortably to your hotel, filled with great food and unforgettable memories.
