Shorts in Japan during the summer

About this tip

If you want to dress like a local, opt for long, breathable trousers, linen pants, or flowy skirts rather than shorts even in the middle of Japan's hot and humid summers. Most adult Japanese men and women stay modest on the lower half, and nothing calls out "tourist!" more than a pair of shorts. Yes, those cargo shorts are super comfortable and functional, but if you really can't stand to wear pants in the heat, then stick to chino-styled or tailored looking options over gym shorts. Shorts remind Japanese natives of school uniforms. Although Japanese locals will be kind to you, trust that they are judging you. lol
