About this trap
Many Kaohsiung night-market stalls, street vendors and small local restaurants take only cash, while hotels, malls and larger shops accept foreign cards. Withdraw some New Taiwan dollars on arrival at a convenience store or bank ATM, and keep small notes for stalls. Transit cards are also topped up with cash. If a stall shows no card or app sign, ask before ordering so the bill is no surprise.
