Jacarandas wash whole streets in purple each October, and the river sky slides from hard blue to soft gold by evening. Then the Story Bridge lights up, and climbers on the floodlit Kangaroo Point Cliffs keep going long after sunset. By day, the lagoon at Streets Beach shines turquoise below the office towers.
Away from the river bends, Fortitude Valley runs on live music and late bars, and West End fills its streets with delis, vintage shops and cafés. Summers are hot and humid, with thunderstorms, while winters stay mild and drier. A Local Friend can tell you which mornings to start early, before the heat and the storms, and which evenings deserve one more hour by the water.
