Trams run straight down the long avenues, the metro dives under the Vistula, and suburban trains roll in from the airport in about half an hour. A short ride east brings the old factory streets of Praga, and a walk north from the center ends in the rebuilt Old Town, beside the Mermaid statue in the Market Square.
Beyond the first sights, Sunday crowds settle on the lawns of Łazienki Park for free Chopin recitals, and Powiśle fills with people at night around its old station bar. Summers are warm, while winters turn cold and often snowy. A Local Friend keeps the plan loose enough to swap a museum for a tram ride when the day asks for it.
