Skis lean against the seats of the Holmenkollen metro line in winter, and in summer the same trains carry hikers and swimmers to the lakes of Nordmarka. Snow turns the Korketrekkeren road into a toboggan run. When the warm months come, evenings stay light so long that people sit on the sloping roof of the Opera House until late.
Away from the harbor, Grünerløkka fills its cafés and secondhand shops, and floating saunas send bathers from hot benches straight into the fjord. Summers are warm and bright, while winters are cold, snowy and short on daylight. A Local Friend keeps the plan loose, so a sunny morning can become a fjord swim and a snowy one a sled run.
