Snow lingers on the peaks above town well into spring, while the valley floor turns green with orchards and chestnut trees. Mornings start cool, so cafés on the main street fill first and the drive up the Valbona Valley waits for the sun to clear the ridges. On summer nights, lightning sometimes flickers over the mountains without a sound.
Past the statue square, the town is a crossroads where furgons from Kosovo, Shkodër and Valbona meet. Winters are cold and wet; summers are warm and mostly dry. A Local Friend reads the sky, the map and the menu for you, so a cloudy morning becomes a plate of flia and a clear one a ride up the valley.
