Winter evenings draw people to Nile Street, where tea ladies set out plastic chairs facing the river and the air smells of ginger coffee. From November to February the days stay warm and dry, and late afternoon suits a crossing to the citrus groves of Tuti Island. By April the heat builds, and errands shift to early morning.
Away from the river, Souq Al Arabi fills several blocks, with a whole section of gold, and Omdurman's Friday gatherings sit just across the White Nile. The climate is hot desert, with brief rains that peak in August. A Local Friend keeps the plan loose enough to follow the weather, trading a midday walk for shade and saving the riverbank for sunset.
